The choir was originally founded in 1977 by Geoffrey Lavery, then the music director at Ipswich School (hence Gippeswyk), and was drawn from members of the wider school community.
Barry Salmon, a local conductor of wide musical experience, was appointed the choir’s musical director in 1986. Under his leadership the choir broadened its intake, and now draws members from the Ipswich and South Suffolk areas.
Following Barry’s illness, Keith Foulds stepped in for our December 2009 concert at Marlesford.
Starting in January 2010, our new conductor is Alan Loader.
The choir has performed in the following places in Suffolk:
Badingham, Battisford, Belstead, Bramford, Capel St Mary, Culpho, Debenham, East Bergholt, Elmsett, Exning, Felixstowe, Framlingham, Hadleigh, Hintlesham, Holbrook, Hengrave Hall, Ipswich (multiple venues), Kersey, Kesgrave, Levington, Leiston, Little Bealings, Marlesford, Martlesham, Needham Market, Rendlesham, Rushmere St Andrew, Sproughton, Whatfield, Witnesham, Woodbridge, Woolverstone;
